Learning basics This was the first step I took in Media, as before I even knew what a film opening was I needed to learn basic terms and conventions. So this was some of my starting points about learning the basics ML Basic media language – shot types, angles Shot types   -E.C.U An Extreme close up shot, if on a person, often has the bottom of the nose and top of the forehead in central frame, anymore becomes a close up shot. An e.c.u connotes to an emotion and helps anchor the preferred reading. An example is in X men, helping to show the hate magneto has towards wolverine -C.U A close up shot, usually doesn't go below the shoulder, and doesn't go above the hair. Close up shots are used to show a facial expression, helping reveal a protagonist. Close ups are often paired with a shallow field of focus as to connote that the focus and importance is on the closer character. Genre Conventions - Titles, Idents, Production Context DRFT

Summary Because we are doing a hybrid genre of the different genres, it is harder to properly label what the conventions for are exact hybrid would look like, however we can see the conventions surrounding the individual genre's and then combine them. Idents Zombie (horror) Films: often have an edited ident, with either a tint over the whole ident, or an affect that makes the ident more 'undead' Often have a black background with a red colour scheme to signify blood Sound is also often removed from the ident Examples SCREAM Ident    - Blue tint Intertextual reference  to Halloween opening  -  Sans serif  font Commonly used in slashers as its very bold matching music -Black background  Use of dark colours with a black background helps  anchor preferred reading   Romance: Idents don't often change that much opposed to the originals Sometimes music is added over as an audio bridge Examples Comedy: No consi...

The Film Industry DRFT

INDIE VS BIG 5 There are basically two sides of the film industry, one is Indie companies (Independent companies) who start from scratch and are relatively unknown. An example of an Indie company is Warp. Throughout this course I will be making reference to warp. The other side is The Big 5 ( Walt Disney Pictures,  Warner Bros. , Universal Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and  Paramount Pictures) However these companies have subsidiaries, one is Working Title, one of Universals subsidiaries. I will also being referencing Working title through out this course.
